BCSJ III - Op Session Gallery
The 3rd Bear Creek and South Jackson started operating in March 2004 with
a bare complement of track.
As of October 2006:
- The temporary track in Redland has been removed and replaced with (more)
permanent track. There are now 40+ car spots in town! Jallen grew legs
and resumed it's identity as a stand-alone timesaver. With the completion
of trackwork in Redland the BC&SJ is now back in operation.
- A two track Deschutes staging yard now allows through trains on the
lower deck.
- The upper deck rough scenery between Mill Bend and Oakhill is welcome
relief after running trains over the "gorge of eternal peril".
- The train line up now offers work for a crew of 12 to 14 moving 14
trains over a 2 1/2 hour session.
As of June 2005:
- Coos Bay/Roseburg stating (pressed temporarily into service as Pocatello stating)
- A temporary yard has been constructed at South Jackson (since the main yard will be
on the peninsula which is yet to be constructed).
- Mill Bend is the resurection of Mill City from the previous layout.
- Oakhill is the highest point on the layout. Trackwork there was completed in May 2005.
- Track crosses the main entry door on a swing bridge allowing easier access for those
not able to handle the nod under.
- A temporary Salem staging area (aircraft carrier style) floats above the Coos Bay/Siskiyou
Line staging area constructed from recycled bits and pieces of Salem staging from the
previous layout.
- Temporary track was laid in Redland to 1) give another destination for trains, and 2) to
experiment with the trackage there before hand-laying a bunch of turnouts and adding scenery.
- Jallen (the enduring timesaver module) is temporarily attached at the end of Redland to
provide more switching and make life difficult for any crew foolish enough to venture that
way with set-outs before having pulled all the pick-ups.
- Nearly two scale miles of mainline and another 2/3rds mile of branch line.
The June 4, 2005 session marked the beginning of a shift from FRS radios and TWC
to an old (new) era with Time Table and Train Order operation.
There is enough tracks and trains to keep a crew of 12 busy for 2 to 3 hours.
