After leveling out the spackle to a bit below the rail heads I painted a layer of gray paint on the road then sprinkled on some Woodland Scenics fine gray ballast.

After the paint dried I vacuumed up the excess ballast then used some sandpaper around my finger to try to make some wear and tear areas where the wheels would go.

This road would look better with some weathering and a center stripe.
