Dec 18, 2015 - I started bridge installation by construction abumtments. I planned to model cocreate abutments so styrene seemed like a logical choice for materials. This is the abutment on the right end (railroad west) of the bridge. The bridge will nestle into the little nook (red arrow) at the top of the abutment. The abutment will be structural - the weight of passing trains will be supported by it. I made it in two pieces. One piece to hold up the track. The other piece is cosmetic and is the front of the abutment. Two wings will be added to keep the dirt and rocks next to the track from sliding down. The pieces you see here were deliberately made a little big and will be filed/sanded down to proper size in place.
