I'm hand holding the cam-corder looking for the optimum position before a drag out the tripod. Using a tripod of other steadying device is mandatory, hand-held video almost never comes out well.

Shooting at a low angle like this yields realistic scenes, but it also exacerbates the depth of field issue. Perhaps more lights would help?
