BCSJ III - October 2005
Hillmovers Construction Co has been at work roughing in the bottom
of Roberts Creek just west of Oakhill Oregon. The locals are pretty
happy to see that scenery is finally starting to appear.
Roberts Creek was named after the pioneering yard master of the
Bear Creek and South Jackson railroad whose crusty disposition
earned him the reputation of someone you don't wanna go messing
with. He recented decided to move to the Klamath Falls division
for various reasons. He will be missed, but the creek (and his
legendary crustiness) ensure he won't be forgotten.
Before scenery could proceed farther in this area a good solid
creek bed had to be installed. This was made considerably more
difficult by the fact that this benchwork is directly above Redland
on the Deschutes branch and so benchwork thickness is a problem.
To make matters worse the Redland lighting has to coexist with the
creek bed in the same benchwork.
The creek will wind back and forth through some mountainous terrain
with the track hopping from one side to the other on three bridges
to avoid the need to drill tunnels and do extensive excavation
when one of side of the creek goes vertical.
