BCSJ II - Folowing Train BCHW - Jun 22, 2001 - 27
This is Albany Crossing. It's what makes the track plan workable with a 30" minimum radius. At Albany Junction it seems trains heading into Salem should turn right while those departing Salem should come from the left. But that's not the case!

Because this area of the layout room has a footprint only 8 feet wide it's not possible to have two 30" radius turnback curves adjacent to each other. To make it work the two turnback curves are overlapped resulting in Albany Crossing (a dual-curved-leg crossing hidden below the east end of Bear Creek. I built this crossing on a piece of PC board using lots of solder to keep the rails firmly in place and gauge. This crossing had better NEVER fail (though there is some access to it from the rear).

Look at the trackplan.
