This is Albany Crossing. Both legs of the diamond are on 32" radius
curves. This crossing is "buried" (about 5 inches of head room) under
the mainline leading east from Bear Creek Yard. Since
it has to be ultra reliable, and since nobody can see it (with out
having to peer under/around benchwork) I built it on a solid
piece of PC board soldering down all the rails and it is accessible
(somewhat) from the rear for emergencies. But I hope this
little bugger will never come undone! The funky wiring is for a
couple of home-brew signals. As the polarity of the wiring for
the diamond changes there is voltage across different parts of
the crossing. The wires lead to some LEDs through dropping resistors.
When the crossing is powered for "your" route a green LED is lit.
Otherwise a RED led is lit. Helps keep people from hitting the
crossing at the wrong polarity and getting that famous Digitrax
Beep, Beep,
Beep.
